What is New Media Art? New Media Art is art created and/or formed in the "digital domain", that is, through use of computer processing. Although there will surely be borderline cases, the essential test of whether art is new media or not is whether the essence of the art piece is created through such processing. Two examples help to explain. Photography or scanned material that are simply printed or displayed by using the computer are not considered New Media. However, the same art used as source material that is subsequently enhanced, altered, or otherwise manipulated in a way that results in original artistic expression that was not existant in the source material is New Media Art. |
